Did you know that I drink iced coffee every morning, rain or shine, sleet or snow?! It’s my favorite way to wake up to take a cup of coffee. There’s something so refreshing about a large tall glass of slightly sweetened iced coffee – but the same old thing can get tiresome, so I’m here to take you out of your routine and introduce you to how to make iced coffee for a few new twists on everyone’s favorite summer drink.
Iced coffee, in my opinion, is better than hot coffee or tea since it’s like a dessert in a glass: add ice, coffee, a splash of flavored syrup, and your choice of dairy (or non-dairy) milk. It’s a fantastic combo worth trying, and it’s pretty simple to make at home!

To make the iced coffee recipe, use high-quality coffee beans, just like you would for any other cup of joe. This is not a paid advertisement for Lavazza, but I adore their dark roast coffee. You can buy the beans whole and grind them at home with a coffee grinder, or you can buy pre-ground coffee at your local supermarket. It’s entirely up to you!
I’ll frequently try to visit one of my favorite neighborhood cafes and get one of their house blends, or I’ll stop by Starbucks for a cup of coffee. You’ll receive the same taste as your favorite coffee shop without having to pay $5 for a cup of coffee!

I don’t know other people, but I prefer my strong, hot, or cold coffee. I prefer a dark roast over a medium or light roast for a richer coffee flavor, but it all depends on your particular opinion. You can utilize either espresso or brewed coffee in these iced coffee recipes.
With espresso shots, you’ll get a more robust coffee flavor, and this is how I love to prepare my iced coffee because the shots combine with the ice to create a chilly beverage straight away, and then all you have to do is add milk and syrup.
On the other hand, proper iced coffee made with brewed coffee takes an hour or two to chill, and who the heck wants to wait that long?! You can use either method, but remember that taking short espresso shots and pouring them over ice will get your iced coffee much faster.
Make a cold brew coffee?
You may also make cold brew coffee, which has recently become popular. According to Cookie and Kate’s post, cold brew coffee is essentially steeped overnight in the fridge through thin coffee filters. The process takes a long time (12-18 hours), but the flavor is incredible, so depending on how far ahead of time you’re ready to prepare the iced coffee, this could be a good alternative.
What kind of ice should I use for iced coffee?
I understand that choosing the appropriate ice for your iced coffee may not seem significant, but it is!
Here are some alternatives for you:
Crushed Ice: This recipe calls for crushed ice, which is what you’ll see. I bought a large bag of crushed ice and used it freely because I had a lot of coffee to prepare. This is how I make iced coffee most of the time.
Medium-sized ice cubes: This is what most people have in their freezer, and I say go for it!
Large Ice: If I’m going to have my iced coffee outside, I like to use larger blocks of ice. It takes time to melt this way!

Here’s how to create your iced coffee. I’ve elaborate it down into simple steps for you to follow:
- Make your simple syrup and set it aside to chill for about an hour. If you’re using store-bought syrups, skip this step.
- Make an espresso or a cup of coffee. Again, I favor espresso since it cools faster when blended with ice — brewed coffee must be chilled for at least an hour before being used for iced coffee.
- In a tall glass cup, pour your favorite coffee over a tremendous amount of ice.
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup and as much milk as desired.
Is it possible to keep iced coffee in the fridge?
Both yes and no, but in my honest opinion, it all depends on how big of a coffee snob you are. Keeping leftovers in the fridge may not be a good idea if you’re used to a fresh brew. If adequately covered, cold brew will stay 2-3 days in the fridge; the flavors will remain a little longer because it’s brewed cold.
However, iced drip coffee has a limited shelf life before the robust coffee flavor fades and becomes stale. It’s not something I’d keep for more than 24 hours. However, aside from the taste, there will be nothing inherently wrong with the coffee, so go ahead and judge your taste buds.

Because sugar does not dissolve well in a cold beverage, I strongly advise you to produce a simple syrup of iced coffee. All you have to do is follow the following steps:
- A cup of boiled water
- Combined sugar, 1 Cup
- Include any relevant extracts (vanilla, caramel, coconut, etc.)
- Before usage, chill for 1 hour in the refrigerator (or freeze to speed up the process).
How to Make an Iced Caramel Macchiato
Ready the rich dulce de leche caramel syrup and layering the espresso and milk is the key to this Iced Caramel Machiatto recipe; it’s also a lot easier than you think! Begin by filling an empty cup halfway with ice, then adding a few tablespoons of the syrup. Brew your espresso and delicately pour it over your choice of milk — I usually use 2 percent, but whole milk makes this drink extremely rich and over the top.
If you don’t have dulce de leche (it’s usually found near the jams or in the ice cream section of your local supermarket), cook a can of sweetened condensed milk in a large saucepan of gently boiling water for 3 hours.
Making the Vanilla Iced Latte
Vanilla lattes are simple to make, and you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a good vanilla bean to obtain a wonderful flavor from this syrup. The formula is simple, much like the rest of the syrups on this page.
Make a basic simple syrup by combining boiling water and sugar, then add your preferred flavoring.
I used regular fake vanilla extract for this vanilla latte, but you could use the more expensive pure extract or go for the vanilla bean if you can locate it.
